Virginia small business health insurance regulations

Virginia health insurance laws require health insurance companies to sell all small businesses a group health insurance policy. Additionally, two state standardized small business health insurance policies must be offered.

Furthermore, the same small group health insurance policy sold to other small businesses must also be offered to any eligible Virginia small business. To be eligible the small business must have at least 2 employees but not more than 50.

However, Virginia health insurance companies can mandate minimum participation requirements before granting a small business health insurance. Under this stipulation, a certain percentage of employees must purchase a health insurance policy or the entire health insurance policy for the small business will be rescinded.

Virginia health insurance companies may also request that the employer contributes a specific amount to each employee's premiums before agreeing to sell the small business health insurance.

Also, the price of Virginia small business health insurance is only slightly limited. Premiums for Virginia small business health insurance can be more due to the group's health status risk, and other factors, but not by too much.
